Wing Trip

Welcome to BHUTAN

The land of Thunder Dragon

There is a famous saying – don’t listen to what they say… go see! And that definitely goes for Bhutan. This popular destination is one of the most influential countries in terms of environment and happiness, and without a doubt, it is one of the most transformative places to visit. Recognized recently by Lonely Planet as the number one country to visit, Bhutan is also an immersive destination for families with school-age children. There is so much on offer in Bhutan to keep the sense of wonder alive. The best way to take their eyes off screens is to take them to a place where there is so much more to see.

In a world that is always on the go, Bhutan provides sanctuary. Here, you can find earthly pleasures: archery and age-old crafts, dishes of home-made cheese and fearsomely hot chilies, breathtaking treks and restorative hot-stone baths.

But there’s another Bhutan, too – the one hinted at by the prayer flags strung across gorges and fluttering on every hillside. It’s where irreverent humor meets deeply held beliefs, and epic landscapes and slow journeys create room for quiet awe. In this Bhutan, you can enhance your well-being, immerse yourself in wonder and embark on exhilarating adventures.

More than 70% forested, and the first carbon-negative country in the world, we’re also planting the seeds of science and tech innovation.

There isn’t just one Bhutan to discover; there are many. From storied cities to soaring mountains, the door to the kingdom is open once again to old and new friends.

WE BELIEVE

This kingdom is steeped in history, but our gaze is fixed on the future. This is our moment of evolution.

Guardian of some of the world’s most pristine, wild and sacred places – and of a rich, deeply rooted culture – we are steadfast as a cypress is in our commitment to conversation.

Our future requires us to protect our heritage and to forge fresh pathways for forthcoming generations.

Those who seek us out are called here. Arriving as guest, you become our partners in this transformative moment and make a meaningful

contribution towards preserving what is priceless.

We see a bright future. And we believe in our ability and responsibility to realize it together, and sine as a beacon of possibility in the world.

OURSELVES

We are little, but our self-believe is great. When we come together – Wing Trip and guest – we are capable of moving mountains. The proof is our culture: diverse, continuous, and storied. The capacity is in our character: dependable, adaptable and ingenious. We believe in our ability and responsibility to realize it. Together we shall shine.

VALUES

Few people experience Bhutan. It is hard to reach us, perched high up in the hidden Himalayas. Those who seek us are called here. They are called by the promise of a place – and pace – unlike any other. Drawn to become guest and guardians, rather than tourists. To experience life where beliefs are every day and extraordinary, and where values are lived. In return, you become part of our story, and we yours.

OUR WORTH

We are caretaker of your trip all the way from the start until you get back home. Our shared responsibility, which we owe to all our distinguish guest, is to make sure you have a wonderful time in Bhutan. Our task is to balance welcome with prudence, and access with perfection and protection. Each person who visits Bhutan contributes meaningfully to our nation’s preservation and progression. It’s not the way other places do things, but our uncommon methods are also its magic.

NATURE

Nature shows us the way: adaptation, tenacity – and evolution. In Bhutan, we are guardians of some of the world’s most pristine, wild and sacred places. They are also vulnerable. They are essential to our culture, ecosystems, watersheds and spirits. In our built and busy world, they are a vital counterbalance. They are a gateway to the expansive experiences we humans fundamentally need.

To try in Bhutan

With its towering monasteries and monuments, spicy cuisine and friendly people, the land of the Thunder Dragon presents unique conundrums every day. Steeped in Buddhist culture, the country offers a serene and peaceful holiday for those so inclined, but the dramatic landscape is also the perfect place to indulge in outdoor activities.
From fly-fishing to river rafting, the water sports options will satisfy the most restless adventurer. If you are more of a dry land person, go for hike through picturesque tree-lined trails or enjoy a riverside picnic. Culture buffs will love the old-world aura of the holy men and their monasteries and can light butter lamps for good luck and long-life. Don’t come as a tourist to the “last Shangri-la” looking for a cookie-cutter holiday experience, come as a traveler, ready to be surprised and charmed.

The traditional attire of Bhutan, the Gho for men and Kira for women, is a beautiful display of cultural heritage. To promote and preserve their unique identity, Bhutanese are required to wear their national dress in government offices, schools, and formal events. Experience the culture firsthand by donning the traditional garb and becoming part of the vibrant Bhutanese community.

Mountain biking in Bhutan is a new sport that is steadily gaining popularity amongst the Bhutanese and visitors alike. The country’s topography, especially in the western, central and eastern regions are not the most cycle-friendly but that is precisely why mountain biking is gaining momentum amongst more and more visitors.

The Royal Thimphu Golf Course lies just next to the beautiful 16th century Tashichodzong, fortress. This is the only golf course in the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan which is open to the public. It is a nine-hole (par 34, 2800 yards) course. The Royal Thimphu Golf Course provides an excellent opportunity to play and experience the tranquil natural beauty with a spectacular backdrop of Himalayan ranges. It is one of the most remote golf courses on earth.

Bhutanese farmhouses are not just beautiful but they are also a window into the local way of life. Bhutanese architecture is distinctive and traditional, using construction methods such as rammed earth and wattle and daub, stone masonry, and intricate woodwork around windows and roofs. Traditionally, these three-story structures have livestock on the ground floor, storage on the second, and living quarters with a shrine on the third. Staying in a farm house for a night allows visitors to experience local family life and the Bhutanese hospitability known for its generosity, humbleness, and uplifting gestures. It is one of the most beloved things to do in Bhutan, and it also allows visitors to learn about numerous legends and folklores of the country.

Bhutan is one of the last unexplored fishing destinations in the world. With its back turned to the outside world, Bhutan has remained a mystery. Furthermore, since most are not aware of this option, very few fly-fishers visit Bhutan annually. There therefore exists the chance of making some interesting and unexpected discoveries. A total of 41 indigenous fish species are known from rivers and lakes of Bhutan. Eight exotic species, including the cold-water brown trout, and seven species of cyprinids introduced for warmwater aquaculture and rarest of mahseer, both golden and chocolate species.

The rugged terrain and breathtaking landscapes of Bhutan offers trekkers and hikers with countless opportunities for adventure. Whether you are an experienced hiker or a beginner, there is a trek or a hike that suits you. Traverse through the towering Himalayas and be mesmerized by stunning panoramas, serene forests, and pristine rivers. Embark on a popular trek like the Druk path Trek, Jhomolahri Trek, Snowman Trek, Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek, Punakha Winter trek or Bumthang Owl Trek, each offering its unique charm and challenge. For those seeking an off-beat adventure, the recently introduced Trans Bhutan Trail, a historic pilgrimage route dating back hundreds of years, spanning 430 km from east to west of the Kingdom, is a must try.

The rivers of Bhutan are generally very steep and powerful and road access is limited, so only relatively short sections of the main river are suitable for kayaking and rafting. Like male and female river in Punakha valley is a beautiful river for family adventure. Bhutan offers a unique destination for avid kayakers who are comfortable in class three and class four rivers, with incredible rivers that are both challenging and amongst the most beautiful in the world.

Buddhism has flourished beautifully in Bhutan. Hundreds of sacred monasteries, stupas, religious institutions, the soft sounding of prayer wheels fading with the wind and fluttering of the prayer flags high up in the mountains; Bhutan is a Buddhist country in sync with its blissful nature. The people of Bhutan not only believe and practice Buddhism but their way of life, culture and tradition is mystically woven with Buddhism, a faith the Bhutanese people proudly follow.
The essence of Buddhist meditation narrates the meditative practice associated with the religion and philosophy of Buddhism. Meditation is understood as something that makes one’s body consciously soothed and relaxed, while the mind is made calm; a technique that aims to develop mindfulness, concentration, supramundane powers, tranquility and insight. Well, one would be surprised but it gets more interesting when one goes beyond just relaxing you mind and soothing your body.

Cathy and Peter Dillon.

You made Bhutan come alive for us during our tour. Learning the history, and visiting all the temples and fortresses were highlights. We especially liked the dinner with the school students and lunch with the cultural dancing. Stopping to watch the archery tournament was a “discovery” moment. Thank you WING TRIP and excellent guide Sangay.

Sue Bell and Hayden

Words won’t express the marvelous adventure that is Bhutan and how good you are as a team. Thank you for your guidance, protection and sense of humor. I am looking forward to another trip to Bhutan. I want to share this unique experience with my friends. In the words of one of my favorite rock bands from the 1960’s – “keep Truck in”. With love and gratitude

Thank you for sharing your stories, your country, your philosophies, your humor and your reverence for all life everywhere. You opened window for us. You helped us become immersed in the essence of this country. You kept us safe and organized, and your teamwork with your team allowed many opportunities for individual needs and excursions. Often, I was treated to your examples of dealing with difficulties with Buddhist enlightenment. I am honored to feel your friendship. I will think of you often with very happy feelings!

Bonnie Galat and family

“We went to Bhutan in October. Wing Trip was recommended to us by a friend who have been to Bhutan. Once we made contact the communication was outstanding. Happy greetings from Bhutan was often the opening sentence and this warmth, kindness and care was reflected throughout our entire journey. We spent 2 weeks in Bhutan, one-week cultural tour and the second week we hiked the Jomolhari track. The genuine kindness that I experienced from all the staff is something, I would love to bottle and bring back to our Western countries. The entire trip went smoothly, from the pick up at the airport, to visiting the various temples, the placement of our prayer flags, and the well-organized picnic lunches, one at the top of a pass where we overlooked the Haa valley. Our second week was hard work, and while we struggled at times our staff always ensured that we managed, and that we were well fed and comfortable. Should we go again, there is no doubt in my mind, that I would only chose Wing Trip again.”
